Siquijor Island Guide
Cebu to Siquijor: Complete 2026 Guide
Ferry routes, Apo Island combo, Siquijor beaches and waterfalls — honest logistics and what a private tour from Cebu actually includes, with day-by-day planning for 1–3 days.
Siquijor is one of the most underrated islands in the Philippines — white-sand beaches, waterfalls you can swim in, and Apo Island's world-class diving all within reach on a single trip. The challenge is that it's not directly accessible from Cebu City: you need either a full day on multiple ferries or a connecting stopover in Dumaguete. This guide covers both options honestly.
Getting from Cebu to Siquijor
There is no direct fast craft from Cebu City to Siquijor. The two realistic routes are:
Route 1 — Via Dumaguete (most popular)
- Cebu City (Pier 1) → Dumaguete: 3.5–4 hours by FastCat or OceanJet (departs 6 AM and 8 AM)
- Dumaguete → Siquijor (Larena port): 1 hour by fast ferry
Total travel time: ~5 hours one-way, not including port waits. First departure from Cebu allows arrival in Siquijor by ~12–1 PM if you catch the connecting ferry.
Route 2 — Via Tagbilaran, Bohol (alternative)
- Cebu City → Tagbilaran: 2 hours fast ferry
- Tagbilaran → Larena, Siquijor: approx. 2.5 hours by ferry
This route is slower overall and requires a connection at Tagbilaran. Only worth it if you're also planning a Bohol stopover on the same trip.
Private tour option — Drive + ferry
A private Cebu to Siquijor tour departs Cebu City at 4–5 AM, drives south to Liloan port (2.5 hours), then takes the RoRo ferry to Santander, Negros Oriental (~30 min), then drives through Negros to Dumaguete Pier, then fast craft to Siquijor. This is faster than combining public inter-island ferries and allows the van to be with you on Siquijor, covering more ground in less time.
What to do in Siquijor
Siquijor is small — you can circuit the entire island by motorbike in 2 hours. The main attractions:
Apo Island Marine Sanctuary (the #1 priority)
Apo Island is 30 minutes by bangka from Siquijor's east coast. The marine sanctuary is widely considered one of the best snorkeling and beginner dive sites in Asia — dense coral, sea turtles guaranteed on every visit, and reef sharks in the deeper zones. Entry fee: PHP 200/person. Snorkeling equipment rental: PHP 200. A private bangka from Malatapay (between Dumaguete and Zamboanguita) is a common access point if you're based in Dumaguete.
If your priority is Apo Island, it's actually more efficiently accessed from Dumaguete than Siquijor. Consider overnight in Dumaguete + Apo Island morning + afternoon ferry to Siquijor as a 2-day structure.
Cambugahay Falls
A tiered freshwater waterfall with multiple pools for swimming — Siquijor's most visited inland attraction. The pools are deep enough for rope swings (there are fixed ropes). Entry: PHP 50. Located inland from Lazi, 15–20 minutes from Siquijor town. Best before 10 AM.
Salagdoong Beach
The most photographed beach on Siquijor — white sand, clear water, and cliff-jumping platforms (3 m and 7 m). Entry: PHP 50. Usually quiet on weekdays. Located on the east coast, easily combined with Cambugahay on a circuit day.
Larena Beach and Sandugan area
Quieter beaches on the north coast of Siquijor, closer to Larena port where the Dumaguete ferry arrives. Good for an afternoon swim while you wait for the return ferry if you're on a day or overnight trip.
Old Balete Tree, Lazi Convent, and healer villages
Siquijor has a well-known local reputation for traditional healing and folk magic — centered in San Antonio municipality. The 400-year-old balete tree in Lazi has a fish spa spring underneath. Lazi Convent (1884) is the largest convent in Asia and worth a brief stop. These are all within 2 km of each other on the south coast.
Recommended itineraries
1 day (ambitious)
Pickup from Cebu City hotel at 4:30 AM → ferry route via Dumaguete → Siquijor arrival ~12 PM → Cambugahay Falls → Salagdoong Beach → Larena beach sunset → overnight (or return ferry, arriving Cebu City ~11 PM). Technically possible but exhausting — overnight is strongly preferred.
2 days (recommended)
Day 1: 4:30 AM pickup → Dumaguete → Apo Island morning snorkeling → lunch in Dumaguete → afternoon ferry to Siquijor → check in → Larena area beach evening.
Day 2: Cambugahay Falls (early, before crowds) → Salagdoong Beach → Balete Tree + Lazi Convent → return ferry to Dumaguete → Cebu ferry → arrive Cebu City ~10 PM.
3 days (relaxed)
Add an extra day on Siquijor for motorbike circuit at your own pace, extra time at Apo Island (dive, not just snorkel), or relaxed beach time. Recommended for divers.

Siquijor FAQ
Can you do Siquijor as a day trip from Cebu?
Technically yes, but it's a very long day — 4:30 AM departure, arriving in Siquijor around noon, with only a few hours before needing to catch the return ferry. Most travelers prefer at least one night on the island or in Dumaguete to include Apo Island without rushing. Two nights is the comfortable option.
Do I need to book ferries in advance for Cebu to Siquijor?
Yes — the Cebu City to Dumaguete fast craft (OceanJet / FastCat) fills up, especially on weekends and Philippine holidays. Book at least 3–5 days ahead in peak season (November–May). The Dumaguete to Siquijor (Larena) ferry is shorter and easier to get last-minute. We handle all ferry bookings for private tour guests.
Is Apo Island near Siquijor or Dumaguete?
Apo Island is closer to Dumaguete (Malatapay pier, 30 minutes by bangka). From Siquijor's east coast, Apo Island is also about 45 minutes by bangka. Both access points work — from Dumaguete is slightly more direct. If you're staying in Siquijor, a day trip to Apo Island is straightforward.
Is Siquijor safe to visit?
Yes — Siquijor is one of the safest destinations in the Visayas. It's quiet, rarely has crime incidents reported, and has a small permanent tourist population. The "witchcraft" reputation is a local cultural tradition, not a safety issue. Roads are good for motorbike or car circuits. Apo Island's waters require basic swimming ability for snorkeling.
What is the best beach on Siquijor?
Salagdoong Beach (east coast) is the most scenic with cliff jumping and clear water. For snorkeling, Paliton Beach (northwest coast) has a healthy reef close to shore. Sandugan Beach (north coast, near Larena) is convenient if arriving by ferry and wanting a quick swim before exploring.
When is the best time to visit Siquijor?
November to May is the dry season — best weather, calmest seas, clearest water for Apo Island. The period around Holy Week (March/April) sees traditional healers ("mananambal") hold rituals — a cultural experience that draws visitors specifically at this time. Avoid peak Holy Week weekends for accommodation availability.
