Day-by-day plan

Your 5 days in Cebu

This itinerary is our recommended order based on energy levels and logistics. It can be shuffled to fit your flights and hotel. Share your arrival date, hotel area, and group size — we'll adjust the sequence to match.

Day 1

Cebu City Arrival + Heritage Tour

Arrive at Mactan-Cebu International Airport. After hotel check-in, take a private afternoon city tour: Magellan's Cross, Basilica del Santo Niño, Fort San Pedro, Carbon Market, and the Temple of Leah. Evening food tour optional — crispy pata, lechon, puso rice.

Pace: Easy. Good for jet lag recovery and orientation.
Pickup: 1:00–2:00 PM from your hotel (afternoon only).
Sample from: PHP 1,800/person
Budget tip: Cebu City heritage tour is the lowest-cost day. Good to do on arrival day when energy is variable.

Day 2

Oslob Whale Sharks + Sumilon Island

The early start day. Pickup at 2:30–3:00 AM, drive south to Oslob, swim with whale sharks at dawn. Continue to Sumilon Island Blue Waters for snorkeling on the famous sandbar — best January–May at low tide. Return to Cebu City by late afternoon.

Pace: Active. Early start, 10–12 hours total.
Pickup: 2:30–3:00 AM
Sample from: PHP 4,450/person (Whale Shark + Sumilon combo)
Budget tip: Going to whale sharks only (no Sumilon) reduces this by ~PHP 700–900/person. Add Sumilon on the same van journey — it's efficient.

Day 3

Kawasan Falls Canyoneering

Pickup at 5:00 AM. Drive to Badian, southern Cebu, for 3–4 hours of canyoneering through the Matutinao River canyon — natural slides, optional cliff jumps (3 m, 5 m, 8 m), rope rappels — finishing at the turquoise Kawasan Falls. Bamboo raft and lunch at the falls. Return by evening.

Pace: Adventurous. Physically demanding — schedule a recovery night.
Pickup: 5:00 AM
Sample from: PHP 3,900/person
Budget tip: Canyoneering is best value as a standalone day. Combining with whale sharks (PHP 4,900) makes for a very long 14–16 hour day — feasible but tiring.

Day 4

Bohol Countryside Day Tour

Ferry from Cebu City pier to Tagbilaran, Bohol (~2 hours by OceanJet fast ferry). Private van for the countryside: Chocolate Hills viewpoint, Philippine tarsier sanctuary, Loboc River cruise lunch, Baclayon Church, and Blood Compact Shrine. Return ferry to Cebu City in the evening.

Pace: Relaxed and sightseeing-focused. Good recovery day after canyoneering.
Pickup: 5:30–6:00 AM (timed for ferry departure)
Sample from: PHP 3,500/person (excluding ferry tickets)
Budget tip: Ferry tickets (~PHP 600–900 return/person) are separate and booked in advance. We coordinate booking as part of the tour planning process.

Day 5

Mactan Island Hopping + Departure

A relaxed final morning with a private bangka boat around Mactan Island — snorkeling at Gilutungan or Nalusuan marine sanctuary, sea turtles, BBQ lunch on the boat, then return to hotel for bags. Airport drop-off included if departing same afternoon or evening. No long south-Cebu drive needed.

Pace: Easy. Perfect final-day wind-down.
Pickup: 8:00–9:00 AM
Sample from: PHP 2,950/person
Budget tip: Island hopping is the best-value day — and it's the most relaxed. Ideal on Day 5 when luggage needs to go to the airport. Boat departs from Mactan — no long transfer needed from airport-area hotels.

Where to stay

Hotel zone guide for this itinerary

Your hotel location affects pickup logistics. Here's how each major hotel zone fits this itinerary.

Cebu City (IT Park, Ayala, Lahug)

Best overall choice for this 5-day plan. Central location — close to Pier 1 for the Bohol ferry (Day 4) and easy access to the South Cebu coastal road for whale sharks (Day 2) and canyoneering (Day 3). Most dining and convenience options.

Recommended areas: IT Park, Salinas Drive, Ayala Center, Lahug. Avoid areas far from the main coastal road if doing multiple south-Cebu tours.

Mactan Island (near airport)

Good choice if Day 5 island hopping is your priority. Island hopping departs from Mactan jetty — you'll have zero travel time on that day. However, the whale shark and canyoneering pickups will be slightly earlier to account for crossing the bridge into Cebu City and heading south.

Recommended areas: Punta Engaño, Maribago, Cordova — all walkable or a short ride to Mactan boat departure points.

Cebu South (Moalboal, Oslob area)

If you're already staying in the south (Moalboal, Badian), the whale shark and canyoneering days become shorter drives. However, Bohol ferry and Mactan island hopping will require you to travel north — add extra travel time and cost to the quote.

Best if your trip is primarily about Kawasan or Moalboal activities and you have fewer days available.

Budget-range hotels that work well

We pick up from any hotel, resort, hostel, or Airbnb in the Cebu City and Mactan areas. For budget-conscious groups: Seda IT Park, Quest Hotel IT Park, and Crimson Resort (Mactan) all have easy van access for early morning departures. Always share your exact hotel name when requesting a quote so we can confirm pickup timing.

Season & weather

When to do this itinerary

November to May (dry season — recommended)

The best window for all 5 activities. Calm seas for Mactan island hopping and Sumilon Island. Best underwater visibility for whale sharks and snorkeling. Lowest typhoon risk. Kawasan canyoneering runs smoothly with stable river levels.

December–February: Peak season. Book 4–6 weeks in advance, especially for whale shark dates around New Year and Chinese New Year.

March–May: Hot and dry. Sumilon sandbar is at its best (low tide, clearest water). Slightly fewer crowds than peak. Good value dates.

June to October (wet season — possible with caveats)

Typhoon season runs roughly June–October. Most activities still operate between storms — Cebu is in a geographic position that deflects many typhoons. But sea conditions can cancel island hopping or Sumilon Island on short notice.

If you travel in wet season: replace Sumilon Island with Moalboal sardines (year-round, doesn't depend on sea conditions). Keep Kawasan canyoneering — it runs in all but the heaviest rain. Keep Bohol — ferry cancels only in Signal 2+ storms.

We monitor and notify you 24 hours before. If conditions are unsafe, we reschedule or refund.

Itinerary variants

Adjust the 5 days for your travel style

Family variant

Replace or modify: Share every child’s age, independent swimming ability, mobility, and relevant health information. Canyoneering requires current operator approval, while all snorkeling and boat activities require a separate water-confidence and access check. We can propose a land-based or lower-impact alternative after reviewing the group.

Order adjustment for families: Day 1 city tour, Day 2 island hopping (easy start), Day 3 Moalboal sardines, Day 4 whale sharks (push the 2:30 AM start to Day 4 once kids are rested from two easier days), Day 5 Bohol.

Adventure variant (active travelers)

Combine where possible: Whale shark + Kawasan in one day (PHP 4,900, 14–16 hrs), Bohol with an add-on paddleboard or Loboc quad bikes, Moalboal sardines + Kawasan on another day. Kalanggaman Island as a 6th day instead of Mactan.

Best order: Day 1 arrival, Day 2 whale shark + Kawasan combo (the big day), Day 3 rest / city tour, Day 4 Bohol, Day 5 Moalboal sardines + Kawasan OR Kalanggaman. Add a 6th day if you want both.

Relaxed / photography variant

Skip the physically demanding days: Replace Kawasan canyoneering with Moalboal sardines (snorkeling only, no physical difficulty). Replace Sumilon with Kalanggaman Island (best for photography — white sandbar, postcard framing). Keep Bohol and whale sharks at your own pace.

Best order: Day 1 city tour, Day 2 whale sharks + Kalanggaman (two beautiful visuals in one day), Day 3 Bohol (slow sightseeing), Day 4 Moalboal sardines + sea turtles, Day 5 Mactan island hopping departure day.

If you only have 3 days

Prioritize: whale sharks (Day 1), Kawasan canyoneering (Day 2), Bohol day tour (Day 3). This covers the three activities most guests say they regret skipping. Mactan island hopping and Kalanggaman are excellent additions for a longer trip but can be skipped for a 3-day itinerary.

Rain day plan

What to do if a tour is cancelled by weather

If whale sharks or island hopping is cancelled (sea conditions)

We reschedule to the next available day if your itinerary has flexibility. Alternatively, we swap to a land-based activity: Bohol day tour, Cebu City food tour, Ayala Center or SM Seaside shopping, or an afternoon cooking class. All rescheduling is coordinated proactively — we won't leave you with a blank day unannounced.

If canyoneering is cancelled (extreme rain)

The Matutinao canyon closes only in extreme rainfall or Signal 1+ typhoon. We reschedule to a nearby date. If rescheduling isn't possible, we can substitute Moalboal sardines + sea turtles or Oslob whale sharks (if not yet done) on the same southern route, reducing your drive time.

Rainy day Cebu City options

Tops Mountain (cloud sea at dawn), SM Seaside City and Ayala Business Park malls, Cebu City food crawl (La Mer, Zubuchon Ayala, Larsian BBQ), Magellan's Cross and heritage churches tour (covered areas), and Sugbo Mercado night market if timing works.

Our weather monitoring promise

We check conditions 24 hours before every tour and message you directly. We do not wait for you to ask. If we see a problem coming, you'll know before you sleep that night so you can plan your morning without stress. All cancellations due to weather come with a full reschedule or refund — no deductions.

Planning notes

Practical tips for this itinerary

Best order for energy levels

We suggest: Day 1 easy arrival, Day 2 whale sharks (early start, get it done while fresh), Day 3 canyoneering (challenging but you're still energized mid-trip), Day 4 Bohol (relaxed sightseeing, good recovery), Day 5 island hopping (the most relaxed day — perfect before flying home). This avoids placing two physically demanding days back-to-back.

Day 6 option: Kalanggaman Island

If you have a 6th day, Kalanggaman Island in northern Cebu is one of the Philippines' most photographed sandbars. A pure beach and photography day after the action-packed first five. From PHP 3,900/person. The bangka crosses from Palompon — arrange the night before.

Packing for all 5 days

For the full itinerary you need: swimsuit and rash guard (Days 2, 3, 5), old sports shoes with grip for canyoneering (Day 3 — do not bring flip-flops), light walking shoes for Bohol (Day 4), change of clothes for post-water days, sunscreen (reef-safe for Days 2 and 5), small dry bag for phone/camera, and PHP 1,500–2,000 cash for local fees and optional extras across the 5 days.

What to bring on the whale shark day

The 2:30 AM pickup means breakfast from a convenience store or from what you pack. Bring snacks (onigiri, crackers, energy bars), water, motion sickness tablets if needed on the boat to Oslob, and your swimsuit packed the night before. Sea turtles are a frequent bonus sighting at Sumilon — have the underwater camera charged.

Common questions

5-day itinerary FAQ

Can I do all 5 days in this exact order?

Yes — this is the order we recommend based on a decade of running these tours. But it can be shuffled. If you arrive on a Tuesday and the 3rd Wednesday of the month is coming up (when Kawasan closes for clean-up), we'll move canyoneering by one day. Share your arrival and departure dates and we'll fit the itinerary to your flights.

How much does this full 5-day itinerary cost in total?

Tour costs alone start at approximately PHP 16,600 per person based on a group of 3–4 from a Cebu City hotel. Add PHP 2,400–4,000 per person for meals, drinks, and local extras across 5 days, and PHP 600–900 per person for Bohol ferry tickets. Total trip budget (tours + food, excluding accommodation) is roughly PHP 19,000–21,500 per person. Accommodation adds PHP 7,500–20,000 for 5 nights depending on hotel category.

Is it possible to do whale sharks and Kawasan canyoneering on the same day?

Yes — it's our most popular combo tour (PHP 4,900 per person). Pickup is at 2:30 AM, whale sharks at dawn, then drive to Kawasan canyoneering in the afternoon. Total day is 14–16 hours. It's feasible for healthy, active adults, but genuinely exhausting. Most guests on a 5-day plan prefer to split them across 2 days so they actually enjoy both activities rather than just survive them.

Is this itinerary good for children?

Five days provides room for a family itinerary, but suitability must be checked activity by activity. Oslob participation, snorkeling, boat access, and canyoneering depend on current rules, conditions, age, swimming ability, fitness, and relevant health information. A lower-impact or land-based alternative may be recommended.

Do I need to book all 5 days at once?

No — you can book one day at a time. However, booking all 5 days together has one practical advantage: we block your preferred dates across all tours simultaneously, which is useful in peak season (December–February) when whale shark and island hopping dates fill 2–3 weeks in advance. A single PHP 500 reservation fee per tour day secures your slot.

What if I want a different Day 3 — not canyoneering?

We can replace Day 3 with Moalboal sardines + sea turtles, a Kalanggaman Island day, a second island hopping in a different area, or a custom food and culture day in Cebu City. Tell us what your group prefers — active, relaxed, water-based, land-based, photography-focused — and we'll suggest the best fit. There's no standard forced itinerary here.
