El Nido, Palawan guide
El Nido, Palawan: Travel Guide and Private Tours from Cebu
Limestone lagoons, island hopping Tours A to D, Nacpan Beach and the route from Cebu, planned by a Philippines inbound operator.
Quick answer: Give El Nido 3 to 5 nights. Fly direct from Cebu to El Nido (Lio Airport) when a flight fits your dates, or fly to Puerto Princesa and drive about 5 to 6 hours north. Spend two days on Tours A and C, add Tour B or D or Nacpan Beach, and visit from December to May for the calmest water. See our El Nido Tours A, B, C and D comparison to pick your boat days.
Where El Nido is and why people go
El Nido sits at the northern tip of Palawan, facing Bacuit Bay. The bay holds dozens of limestone islands with lagoons, white beaches and coral gardens. Most visitors come for one reason: a day on a boat moving between those islands.
The town is small and walkable. Hotels sit in El Nido town proper, along Corong-Corong Bay for sunsets, and farther north near Nacpan and Lio Beach for a quieter stay.
Getting to El Nido from Cebu
You have two routes. Pick based on flight days, budget and how much time you want on the road.
| Route | Travel time | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Cebu to El Nido (Lio Airport) direct flight | About 1.5 hours in the air, then 20 minutes to town | Short trips and families who want the least travel |
| Cebu to Puerto Princesa flight, then private van north | About 1.5 hours flying plus 5 to 6 hours by road | Travelers adding the Underground River or saving on airfare |
| Manila to El Nido or Puerto Princesa | Depends on the connection | Guests arriving in the Philippines through Manila |
Direct Cebu to El Nido flights run on selected days and sell out in peak months. Check flight days before you fix hotel nights. Our team plans the airport pickup and the van leg once your flights are booked.
Things to do in El Nido
1. Tour A: Big Lagoon, Secret Lagoon and Shimizu Island
The classic lagoon day. You paddle or swim into lagoons ringed by cliffs, snorkel near Shimizu Island and finish on Seven Commandos Beach. Big Lagoon entry is limited each day, so the order follows the permit slot.

2. Tour C: Hidden Beach, Secret Beach and Matinloc Shrine
The most scenic snorkel day for many guests. Hidden Beach and Secret Beach sit behind rock walls, and Helicopter Island has a long sand stretch for lunch.
3. Tour B: Snake Island sandbar and Cudugnon Cave
A curving sandbar seen best from the viewpoint above it, plus a cave with an old burial site. Good for a third boat day.
4. Tour D: Cadlao Lagoon and quiet beaches
Shorter boat rides and calm beaches close to town. A gentle choice for families, seniors or a half-rest day.
5. Nacpan Beach and Twin Beach
A 4 km golden beach about 45 minutes north of town by road. Go on your non-boat day for swimming and a slow lunch.
6. Taraw Cliff or a town viewpoint
A steep guided climb over sharp limestone for the view over Bacuit Bay. Wear closed shoes and go early in the day.
7. Sunset at Las Cabanas or Corong-Corong
Beach bars face west across the bay. Plan this for the evening after a boat day.
How many days to spend in El Nido
| Nights | What fits | Our view |
|---|---|---|
| 2 nights | Arrival, one boat day, departure | Tight, and one rough-sea day cancels the trip |
| 3 nights | Tours A and C | The minimum we suggest |
| 4 nights | Tours A and C, Nacpan Beach or Tour B | The best balance for most guests |
| 5 nights or more | All four tours, Nacpan, a rest day | Best for divers, families and slow travelers |
Keep one spare day. The coast guard stops boats when the sea turns rough, and a spare day lets your tour move instead of disappear.
Best time to visit El Nido
December to May brings the calmest seas and the clearest water. March to May is the hottest and busiest stretch, with Holy Week and Philippine school breaks filling hotels. June to November brings rain and the southwest monsoon, so boat days get cancelled more often, though prices drop.

Fees and rules to know before you go
- Eco-Tourism Development Fee: every visitor pays this once per stay. It was PHP 400 per person at our last check, valid for several days. Keep the receipt for every boat day.
- Lagoon fees: Big Lagoon and other protected sites charge separate entry fees, and entry slots are limited per day.
- Reef-safe habits: no touching coral, no feeding fish and no single-use plastic on the boats.
- Our private Palawan quotes include all entrance and environmental fees on the written itinerary, so nothing extra is collected on the day.
Combining El Nido with Cebu, Bohol or Siquijor
Many of our guests land in Cebu, spend 3 nights there for whale sharks and canyoneering, then fly to Palawan. A 7 to 10 day plan often looks like this: Cebu 3 nights, El Nido 4 nights, and either Bohol or Siquijor for 2 nights.
