Sinulog 2027 tips
Sinulog 2027 Tips for First-Timers
What our Cebu team tells every guest before parade weekend, from shoes to street closures.
Quick answer: For Sinulog on January 17, 2027, wear light clothes and closed walking shoes you can get dirty, carry a small cross-body bag with cash in small bills, a power bank and water, and walk instead of driving, since central Cebu City closes to traffic. Arrive at Osmeña Boulevard by 6 AM for a street spot, agree on a meeting point with your group, and expect face paint and water play on the streets.
What to wear
- A light shirt you are happy to get paint on. Many visitors buy a Sinulog shirt from street sellers.
- Closed walking shoes. You walk several kilometers, and streets get crowded and wet.
- A cap and sunscreen. January mornings are mild, but the midday sun is strong.
- Modest clothes for the Basilica. Cover shoulders and knees for Mass.
What to bring
- A small cross-body or front bag that zips shut.
- Cash in small bills for food, water and paint stalls. Card payments are rare on the street.
- A charged power bank. Signal slows when the crowd is at its peak.
- Water and a snack. Lines at food stalls run long.
- A plastic pouch for your phone against water and paint.
- A printed note with your hotel address in case your phone dies.
Getting around on parade day
Central Cebu City closes to vehicles around the parade route on Sinulog Sunday, and traffic jams spread across the city. Walk where you can. Taxis and Grab cars get stuck outside the closures, so plan a drop-off point several blocks from Osmeña Boulevard and walk in.
Staying on Mactan? Leave before 5 AM or stay in the city on Saturday night. Most of our guests keep tours to the days before and after the parade.
Where to watch
Grandstand seats on Osmeña Boulevard give the clearest view of the dance contingents. Street viewing is free but packed, so arrive by 6 AM. The main Sinulog guide lists viewing spots and ticket timing.
Staying safe in the crowd
- Set a meeting point with your group in case you get split up.
- Keep phones and wallets in front pockets or a zipped bag.
- Children should carry a card with a parent's phone number.
- Drink water often and rest in shade during the hottest hours.
- Leave before the evening crowd if you are with young kids or older guests.
Paint, water and street etiquette
Face painting is part of the fun. Sellers offer it for a small fee, and friendly strangers may dab paint on your cheek. Water play happens in some areas after the parade. Say no with a smile if you prefer to stay dry.
When you hear "Pit Señor", the reply is the same words back. It is a short call to the Santo Niño, and joining in is welcome.
Tours to add around Sinulog
The parade is one day. The rest of your week works well for Oslob whale sharks, Kawasan Falls and island hopping, which run as normal during festival week. Book them early, since January demand is high. Our after-Sinulog guide has sample plans.

Sinulog tips FAQ
What should I wear to Sinulog?
Light clothes you do not mind getting paint on, closed walking shoes, a cap and sunscreen. Cover shoulders and knees if you plan to enter the Basilica.
Is Sinulog safe for tourists?
Yes, with normal crowd care. Keep valuables zipped and in front, set a meeting point and stay hydrated.
What does Pit Señor mean?
It is short for "Sangpit sa Señor", a call to the Santo Niño. People shout it during the dance and the crowd answers with the same words.
Can I get a taxi on Sinulog day?
Roads around the parade route close, and traffic is heavy across the city. Plan to walk the last few blocks.
